My debt is pushing me over the edge… what should I do?!?I have a credit card debt of $ 5,000 and a bank loan for $ 3,000. I’m still behind on the minimum and it feels like I’m not even making a dent in the interest. The bank has been harrassing me and calling me even more lately and they’ve been getting extremely pushy. I’ve been working part time while I finished up a summer anatomy class and I start my fulltime status next week so I can get paid more, obviously. My inquiry is should I go to a credit counseling place? Or should I try to handle this myself? And I place of protection’t even touched basis with the credit card company. I was young and made stupid mistakes and now that I’ve irrevocably got my life turned nearly, I have to deal with those consequences. My credit is already ruined and I have no thought what to do. Any suggestions?

go to credit counseling

Answer by DNCTERRORISTORG
#1 Go to a credit counselor right after you cut up all your credit cards.

Financial Aid being held?I am a full time college student. When I was tiresome to choose if I may possibly afford to go to college full-time, the teach told me that I certified for financial aid, and I may possibly receive living expense money. I started teach in August 2010. I went to the Fed Financial Aid website and my teach was paid for my loan on 9/17/2010. My teach isn’t giving me my check until Nov. 18, 2010. Why? I am already being exciting interest on this loan! I have already completed my Anatomy class with an A. I am beginning to miss lessons because I can’t afford to miss work. I don’t know why or how they can hold MY money this long. The financial aid office is no help to my questions!
I can completely know holding it for a few weeks! But 3 months? I even received a letter from my teach stating that first time students would have to wait 30 days after the date the teach was paid for the loan. So what’s up with the 2 additional months? I reflect I will contact the State Attorney General’s Office.

The teach may hold your financial aid or loan money for the first couple of weeks of teach if it is your first time borrowing. They do that so students don’t just take the money and then quit teach. There is nothing you can do but wait. Sorry about your situation.

Should I go back to teach or continue on the path I’m on.? 10 pts. for best answer?Hey, I’m needing some advice on deciding what the best option would be for me. I’m 24. Husband is 23. We have no kids. Currently I am a Certified Pharmacy Technician but I have yet to find a job with this certification. I currently work at Wal-Mart in the Bakery. My husband is a housekeeper. I have obtained thus far 110 credits for a Bachelor’s degree, but, my credits are not in any particular field. I would be in essence graduating with a BA in University Studies. I thought about apt a Physician’s Assistant. In KY you can get nto the Master’s of PA studies with a BA in University Studies as long as you have some lessons such as anatomy, chemistry, biology, etc. My ACT score was 22, the problem being is my math score was only 18, so I would have to take two remedial math class before I may possibly take any of the advanced math lessons which would place be a few years behind. We are already in debt approx 10,000 in student loans and if I go back I would have to take out student loans. I guess what my concerns are:

The time it would take to get the degree
The amount of student loan debt that would incrue
Early a family/buying a house would be delayed and I’m already 24

I’m just really looking for advice and I would greatly apappreciate any help. Thankfulness!!!

Keep going to teach. You sound smart, you shouldn’t be working at Walmart. If you had kids I would say if not, but you don’t.

I dont know how your university let you get all the way to 110 credit hours without making you pick a foremost. Why not look into scholarship money or federal pell grants, that way you wont have to pay anything back. It sounds like you already know you need to go back to teach, so I reflect you should do that.

I dont see how early a family would be delayed. Your only 24 and college will take you only 2-3 more years. I dont reflect you should start a family if your not financially stable anyway, so the delay might benefit you

The lessons don’t sound that terrible, only 6. But the days and times make your schedule seem like a whole lot more than it is. If you have that teach schedule along with work, you’re going to get real exhausted, real quick, unless you can handle a lot in one day nearly everyday of the week.

yea the bio and anatomy lessons are horrible, have fun studying the nervous system. im not sure about nutrition but algebra and gym should be pretty simple. looks like you got your work cut out for you

Seems like a lot, but if you like it, you can beyond doubt do it. I in person wouldn’t be able to handle it, but I’m sure you may possibly. Excellent luck!

The best way to get rid of debt is to buy property!!!
This isthe ONLY way to pay off $ $ $ credit cards and other loans. If you find smart person who can help you buy house and help with financing – you will get rid of you debt in 2-3 years.
In more details – property value is permanently goes up. When you buy house, even small one, the price will go up no matter what. So when you do refinancing after few years, you’ll be able to cover all debts. Now days you can have 2 loans and then you can convert them into 1. Once again you need home broker who can help you out – I have done it and it worked for me!

    Excellent luck!

try to consolidate your debts. the consolidation company would help you to make a deal w/ your creditors plus reduce your finance charges. the catch is that u cannot use the credit cards until the debts are paid off. the cards would be frozen.

  8. samdollylama says:

your credit has been harmed, but it’s not ruined forever. You will be able to re-build it. Try calling the companies you owe money to and working out a compromise payback arrangement. If you go to credit counseling, it will be worse for your credit. If you get on track with these people and avoid judgements against you, your credit is not irreparably harmed. Then, cancel all your cards except one and use it judiciously, paying it back promptly. Since you’re still so young, you will get this back in shape soon.

  9. agedlioness says:

credit counseling. they may very well be able to
negotiate time for you to get caught up without further
hurt to your rating. of course you will then need
to stick to a financial statement and pay according to the covenant.
hang in there, the tunnel has an end.

  10. bigTbags says:

This is not about your lifestyle – this is about your perception of yourself. Give it up. You do not want to become a slave to those cards.

Learn the example – You can not afford what your buying!
STOP charging – find other ways to survive. Get a roommate.

But remember – More money does NOT equal more to spend!

  11. Christopher B says:

This is a common problem among college age Americans.

First, the produce of the problem is that too many people use credit for the incorrect wits. Credit should be used primarily to by assests (things that actively make us money). Cash is what should be used to by liabilities (things that lose value the minute they are bought, decrease in value with use, or require more money to maintain them over time).

Now, the cure. The only way your are going to pay off your debts is to stop the interest and late charges from accruing. One way to do this is to contact a credit consumer company (CCC) to help you negotiate with your debtors. They will negotiate with your credit companies, stop interest and late charges from accruing, and sometimes even reduce the amount that is owed. The catch is, you have to abide by their payment policy. If you default on them, then the companies can come back at you in full force.

First, weep, the situation warrants it. Now thats out of the way. You have a few options, since I’m completely aware of your entire situation, I cant tell what your best option would be.

    1. Change your name to ‘Nixon Carmichael’, get a new identity, SS# and DL and go to another state. Preferably one like California that has liberal ID and housing laws.

    2. DEBT Consolidation. For some people this works, others still struggle. Give the low amount that youre behind, it may be worth looking.

    3. Credit Counseling. *shudders* While these people are a bunch of weasel-d*cks, they’ve been known to help every now and again.

    4. Best option: Get a full time job and works your a&& off until your debt is paid up to a reasonable, liveable amount. This is what most people do.

Call and see if you can get the credit card company to lower your interest rate – way down. If not, then look into moving the balance to a zero-interest balance transfer card – just be careful! Lots of those deals have a rate that goes way up later on, but it is a temporary relief from accruing so much interest. See if your current credit card company will work with you first. Tell them if they don’t you’ll go the balance to a card with a different company.

As for the bank, call your original loan officer and tell them you want to make excellent on your loan but may need to refinance or make a different payment plot to avoid falling behind. You may have to pay a privileged interest rate but you may be able to negotiate a lower payment or more payments over time so that you can keep up.

Since you have just one credit card and one bank loan, I reflect you may possibly beyond doubt try to work with these lenders to get things on track. You’ll feel excellent about yourself when you get on top of it all!

It’s not too late to restore your credit and with some time and disipline, you CAN do it!

Honestly, stop buying things you can be without.
Be extremely selective ie dont eat out, buy groceries (necessary ones) and cook huge dinners that you can eat for numerous days. Get an extra job and save, save, save.

Try to start payment plans with whoever you owe, and just pay on time everytime. Pay all off small by small and balnce your checking account. You should talk to a administrator at the credit card co. and bank and clarify your situtation and work with them on payments thats all.

You will have to work a lot- the more you work now, the quicker you can pay them off and hopefully be done by christmas 2007.

  15. VIC G says:

Don’t try to go it on your own. I’ve been there and it doesn’t work. Beyond doubt try a debt counseling service such as Family Credit Counseling Service or one of the counseling services you see on TV. They can get your payments lower and also try to lower your interest rates – especially on credit cards. If you have equity in a home, try going to a place like CITI Financial to see if you can get a debt consolidation loan. That’s what I did and I’m glad I did. If you have to, try to get a second or third job until you are back on your feet. Go to FreeCreditReport.com to print out copies of your credit report and credit scores. Do anything (legal) you have to to try to raise your score. But, go to one of the debt counseling services first. They can tell you what you have to do or where you have to go.

I would guess if you really looked at your situation you may possibly make some changes. Eat out less, get rid of the cell phone, get rid of cable tv etc. Get another job anywhere. I am sure you have had time to hang out . Sometimes you have to give up something to get something. It will not be fun but if you want it terrible ample you can make it happen. Fleeting term sacrifice is worth the long term gain. Donate Plasma for 40$ a week takes small time and gets you a full payment for the month I would guess while costs a few hours a week. I am still paying $ 30,000 in college student loans so your situation is not as dire as it may seem.

  17. paraleagle4u says:

You have a very excellent inquiry. As a Paralegal, I am not giving legal advice but offering possible solutions. I may possibly act as a mediator between you and your creditors, possibly negotiate a payoff amount to pay each creditor and cou;d save you money, and credit. You may possibly see a debt counselor, which will show negatively on your credit report, as terrible as declaring bankruptcy, because your credit report will show you had a third party take care of your debts. You may as well announce Bankruptcy. You may want to seek the advice of legal counsel as well.
